Judges Can Attend State of the State Speeches, But Quietly

As seen in this article:  “New Jersey judges are free to attend State of the State speeches and similar events and they can even wear their judicial robes but they must be ‘very circumspect in their demeanor and reactions,’ according to newly issued guidelines from the state Supreme Court.”

“Former state Supreme Court Justice Peter Verniero, now with Sills Cummis & Gross in Newark, said he saw the directive as trying to strike a balance between recognizing that the judiciary is part of our three-branch system and reminding judges to ‘avoid any partisan expressions.’”
